Welcome to the Parlour Room

As an artist, gallery owner and explorer I am interested in connections and conversations. A former co-owner of Fill in the Blank Gallery, I spent the past six years in Chicago amassing a community of artists and peers with whom I drew great inspiration and comfort. My recent relocation to Michigan has given me the opportunity to reflect on my time in the city and what having that kind of artists association will mean for me in another setting. It is through this contemplation that I decided to start The Parlour Room.
Throughout history the “parlour” has been a place for social gathering and an incubator for the development and exchange of ideas. Here I am inviting artists to exhibit in my gallery, a small space that resides within the former parlour of an old Victorian house. By utilizing an unconventional gallery model, conversation and interaction highlight that it is not the physical space that dictates the value of a work but rather the dialogues that surround it.
With this project, I am getting acquainted with my new community in much the same way that one begins to know another by peeking at the contents of their bookcases. I am curating my interests and asking for others to help add to the collective library that is being formed out of this interaction. It is through peer reviews of the work, conversations (both online and in the physical space) as well as contributions of your own work and ideas that will help to make this happen.
The Parlour Room is happy to host visiting hours by appointment. More information can be found on the visiting hours section of the site.
